As night fell over Gotham City once again, some quiet bright moments occurred in the nightly sky that lay dark over the city. The alleys and streets and the up and downhill lanes had litter and garbage piled up for the waste service vans to pick up the next morning. Everything was quieting down from the new years celebration party that had just been celebrated and the thousands of Gothamers that had been celebrating were just starting their good night sleep. A good night sleep well deserved because last year had seen some incredible moments. The restauration of the Bridge of a Million dreams, and the grand escape of the Penguins into space.
The Moonlings were arriving. Filthy creatures of various sizes that ranked up to conquer and destroy. Nobody liked them and they were hard to get rid of. It was a hard life now in Gotham since they had arrived. Their goal was to bring the End of all Beauty. Although Gotham hadn’t really seen much beauty for a long time, the ravenous Moonlings were going to make things worse. The most annoying creatures after the disappearance of the wild and evil doings of the Joker. But let’s not talk about the Joker. The Joker wasn’t a big issue anymore and who knew he would never be anymore. The Moonlings were the scum of the sky, the grate of the heavens and the most disastrous occurrence since, well, since nearly the early years of the city. Nobody was more afraid than the inhabitants of Gotham these days. They had occurred since a while ago, after people had been reporting strange sounds in the sky. Also the children had developed hunches, that there were creatures coming after them. Creatures from heaven, or from the sky, since heaven did not really exists for Gothamers. Now the great days of darkness had come. An era in which everyone would need to show their spunk against an evil of unknown origin, but from far far away it seemed. The greatest danger in space history. Twelfthousand creatures with dragonlike wings and a deer-like body wandered in a distant above, coming down from the sky to steal Gotham’s children. Most of them at least. Most of them were after little children, and the night was thus a chilling time to most of the children in the city. But during the days they were safe, mostly, they thought. The daytime was not a good time for the Moonlings to come down, as they were more vulnerable and perhaps unable to survive. Nobody really knew anything about their character, their physics or their ways of communicating and surviving. And there were thousands of them. Descending to earth by ufos or unidentified aerial phenomena, seeking habitat in the brain of the poor unknowing zombies.
Through the membrane of these unknowing organisms they found a way of life, until there was an opportunity to exit through a leap of faith, jumping into devices where they could find opportunity to explore and wreck havoc in the world the people had created for their children, the chosen ones. They knew how to erase all traces of their arrival. This was the way they were built to survive, on earth and maybe more planets and places in space. Nobody knew where they came from, and not many had been aware of their arrival. Of course they knew how to make their way in unseen to most, and only the crazy people ready for their own diminishing adventure had seen glimpses of these nearly invisible organisms. Where was the world going to? Was humanity going to survive? All the sharks and dolphins and palm trees were ready for the next era of life. Technology was going to die, like everything has a beginning and an end. The universe had seen enough of the same thing over and over. Perhaps if the world had chosen a different way to survive, like building batteries of life prolonging energy tanks and interstellar life and defence systems there would be hope for an eternal future of the human race.
For now, the end was near. ‘Don’t say I didn’t warn you!’ Batman thought.
